The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a tehsil-level nowcast alert for several parts of Punjab, warning of likely thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall in the coming hours.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, regions including Sangrur, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Chandigarh, Kharar, Khamanon, Chamkaur Sahib, and Rup Nagar are expected to witness moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
Light rainfall is also likely to affect a broader area, including Sardulgarh, Budhlada, Lehra, Mansa, Sunam, Barnala, Tapa, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Rampura Phul, Khanna, Payal, Ludhiana East, Samrala, Nihal Singhwala, Raikot, Jagraon, Ludhiana West, Phillaur, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, and Nangal.
While no formal weather warning has been issued for Punjab, the IMD has urged residents in the affected regions to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and take standard safety precautions during thunderstorms.
Elsewhere, an orange alert has been declared for several districts in Gujarat—namely Mahisagar, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Mahesana, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Dahod, and Panchmahal—where moderate rains could lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
A yellow alert has also been issued for Kachchh, Banaskantha, Patan, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dangs, Navsari, and Valsad.
Meanwhile, in its pan-India forecast, IMD predicted continued heavy rainfall over Northeast and adjoining East India for the next seven days. Extremely heavy showers are expected today over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Light to moderate rain is also anticipated in Delhi-NCR, including areas such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Bahadurgarh, accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning.
